Corrupted/Grief (Split) 1995
Corrupted (Jpn)
1.Mi Pueblo
Grief (US)
2.My Dilemma
Out of Corrupted's releases from their first year, their track on this split has to be the best. 'Mi Pueblo' (translated: 'My Town' is a really dark and loud track. It fits very nicely with the crackling sound of vinyl, I might add. It's not vastly different from the other Corrupted releases this year, but unlike those releases this does not sound too similar.
Grief do quite a good job on their side as well. The music is even louder than Corrputed's side. The vocals are brighter and more oppressive. Not to mention that just like the band they share this 7" with, their track is incredibly filthy. That they truly despise themselves doesn't really come as a surprise when you hear this.
I must admit that it's not often that one is lucky enough to find two of the biggest names in sludge/doom doing a split together. Additionally, both tracks are very well done. This one ought to fit the liking of most sludge fans.

Corrupted - Anciano(EP)1995
1.The Post War Dream 02:25
2.Si Mismo Defensa 05:09
3.Que Cabronada 00:18
4.Anciano 04:35
Total playing time 12:27
Despite the fact that Corrupted has only existed for 9 years as I write this in early autumn of the year 2004, they have still managed to produce 23 releases. That is an average of approximately two and a half releases per year. Indeed an impressive discography.
This is their first release, which already gives clear hints of what is to come. Raw and pounding sludge emanates in filthy waves from this vinyl. Deep guttural growls spit out the lyrics, primarily in Spanish. I have yet to find out why it is so that a Japanese band would choose Spanish lyrics, but it does fit remarkably well.
Being primarily influenced by the first sludge bands, it's no surprise that fans of Grief and Eyehategod should find this to their liking. Perhaps even fans of Crowbar would be interested. But most of all fans of Corrupteds later works would be the ones who should truly seek this one out.

Corrupted-El Dios Queja(EP)1995
1.Hay Que Joderse 05:48
2.Renir A Existencia 05:57
3.Sisto 14:57
Total playing time 26:42
This is the second release from the Japanese sludge/doom band that we know as Corrupted. It has grown a bit deeper and darker than their first release, the 7" 'Anciano'. Still the music is very recognizable and they haven't lost the Spanish lyrics.
I'm not particularly good with Spanish, but the album title 'El Dios Queja' means something like "Gods complains". I am not sure how this comes out in the lyrics because, as already said, I'm no good at Spanish. It still makes for some interesting music though.
Corrupted plays really filthy music even by sludge standards. It feels like a lightless ghetto, filled with the rotting stench of the waste and sewer that litter the streets. No wonder God would complain.
I might be stating the obvious, but it is only fans of extreme sludge/doom that would truly appreciate this. Playing this for the average glam rock star would surely make them vomit.
---------------------------------------

Corrupted- Nadie(EP) 1995
1.Nadie 04:23
2.Bajo De Cero 06:30
3.Esclavo 10:16
Total playing time 21:09
This is Corrupted's first CD release and is called 'Nadie' which translates as "nobody". If we're to believe the chronology of the discography as it is on their website, then this is also their last release in 1995. This means they managed to produce 4 releases during that year. So at the very least there’s nothing wrong with their productivity.
There's just one thing I find lacking on this CD; a distinct lack of variation which is all too apparent. To make things worse the music hasn't gained anything new since the band began. They have indeed been productive, but it seems to come at the cost of having no time to develop new musical ideas.
On the other hand I doubt that the die-hard Corrupted fan would mind. Despite the lack of freshness in the music, the musical quality of each track is still just as high; as filthy, grim and spiteful as ever. I just hope for a little change in the next of their releases that I take on.

Corrupted / Black Army Jacket split 1997
Black Jacket Army: tracks 1-3
Corrupted: track 4
1.Parliament Of Rooks 00:48
2.Fire In The Universe
3.Impastor
4.Arrastrandose Solo 05:43
This is the second split which Corrupted participates in. It is also the first of the several splits with grindcore bands that were to come later. There is one difference though. Black Army Jacket isn't exactly your average grindcore band.
The split starts off with three tracks by Black Army Jacket. They were a real surprise when I first heard them. I knew that before they split up, they were one of the fastest bands in the NYC area. What I wasn't expecting was that they are also one of the doomiest grindcore bands ever. In fact, there should be no doubt that large parts of their works on this split, is sludge/doom. Nonetheless, they are mainly a death/grindcore band which is clearly influenced by Celtic Frost. Well. On this split, at least.
Corrupted takes on its side in their typical filthy sludge/doom style, with Spanish lyrics and the grim vokills that we'd expect from one of their releases - musical vomit from twisted minds.
The front of the split has "Homosexual Ejecutado" written on it. This translates to "Executed Homosexual" and is most likely a reference to the picture of a dead man that is right below the text. Below that picture is another text: "En esta forma fue encentrado el cuerpo José Santana Hernández (La Lucero) asesinada a podridas". This is best translated as "In this way the body of José Santana Hernández ([from the place] La Lucero) was left to rot". I'm not sure what it's supposed to mean. The name of Corrupted’s track 'Arrastrandose Solo' (translated: "Crawling Alone" doesn't give any obvious clues to the meaning, either. It's not unlikely that it's just a comment intended to shock.
This is one of the better splits ever done by Corrupted, and as Black Army Jacket also impressed me greatly, I'd recommend this one to everyone who wants a good sludge split. Definitely one of the best releases in Corrupted’s discography.

Corrupted/Enemy Soil(Split) 1997
Corrupted: track 1
Enemy Soil: tracks 2-4
1.Reference 04:36
2.Recombustion
3.The Body Politic
4.Death Sentence
There is a lot of doom fans out there who favour vinyl over digital medias like CDs. This is mostly due to a lower sound quality and the crackling sounds which are also called "the vinyl sound". This is true in many cases, and especially in the cases of noise bands. But this is the 7" that the vinyl sound ruined. The Enemy Soil side didn't lose any quality on the choice of media. However, the Corrupted side did. Their great sound relies a lot on the massive bass rumbling that their riffage consists of. The vinyl has partially muted the bass by removing the lowest notes, which sadly makes the track a lot less interesting.
The basic sound of 'Reference', Corrupted's track, is much the same as the one on 'Paso Inferior'. It's not as slow and massive, but still very similar. It's also over half an hour shorter
. Enemy Soil is far from a doom band. In fact it is on the other side of the speed scale. In their longest track (which is just a few seconds over 2 minutes long) they have at least ten times as many beats in total as Corrupted's four and a half minute track. This is brutal grindcore mixed with a little noisecore and a hint of death metal. Harsh screams and yells count as the vocals. In fact the simple riffage, which I am sure has no more than four notes in it in total, is all that saves this band from making "music" out of chaotic banging of drums and wild screaming.
So, would I reccomend this release? Well. Those who enjoy brutal grindcore, maybe, but I urge doom fans to stay clear of this one. Unless of course you are a collector of Corrupted's works that is. On the other hand, I'm sure not everyone will be as dissapointed by this as I was, but you have been warned.

Corrupted/Nootgrush(Split) 1997
Noothgrush
1.Hatred For The Species 06:05
2.Draize 13:56
3.Crawl 02:47
Corrupted (Jpn)
4.Inactive 19:02
5.Estar En Visperas De Ultima 05:43
Total playing time 47:33
This is one of the darkest and heaviest splits between two sludge/doom bands that I have ever come across. When two of the most influential sludge/doom bands, who are known to create just this kind of music, decide to do a split together, one expects them to deliver the worst in the best kind of way.
Indeed Noothgrush doesn't fail to deliver music good enough for those expectations. Their old-school Grief-like sludge/doom is as sick, heavy and filthy as they are expected to deliver. You'd better have a good reason not to frown.
Corrupted on their side do just as well. Their hardcore influenced sludge/doom is filled with the ugliness which Corrupted fans seems to enjoy. Truly hideous down to the bone.
Both bands are in the vein of Grief, but in their own distinct ways. Those who enjoy Grief's way of creating sludge should also give these two bands a shot. I cannot think of anyone from that fanbase who have tried them and disliked them. If that's not a good recommendation in itself, then I don't know.
---------------------------------------

Corrupted-Paso Inferior(Full Lenght 1997)
1.Paso Inferior 41:46
Total playing time 41:46
Though originally released in 1997 on CD, this one track full-length was re-released as a LP in 2002 by the German label Insolito Records. The name of the release, 'Paso Inferior', means something along the lines of "Underground Passage". This can be interpreted in many ways, but my humble (and probably wild) guess is that it stands for either a tomb or a decent into Hell. Those who understand Spanish (and hence understand the lyrics), would probably understand the meaning far better.
Corrupted has made some dirty and grim releases before this one, but none of them come close to the deep, dark sewage that has been produced on this track. You can almost feel the black bile being regurgitated from your lungs. It is also one of the slowest and heaviest pieces of music that I have ever heard. They constantly play low end notes and the intro alone lasts three minutes before the actual track begins.
I must admit that most of the music on the Corrupted releases of 1995 didn't really grant me much in terms of listening pleasure. I was ready to give up on them when I heard this one. The audio devastation on this release is utterly impressive. This is not just anyone's cup of tea so unless you, like me, enjoy it mixed 50/50 with engine oil, I'd skip this release.
---------------------------------------

Corrupted/Scarver's Calling(Split) 1999
1.Scarver's Calling: Driven To Kill
2.Scarver's Calling: I Have The Missing Child
3.Scarver's Calling: Mangler
4.Corrupted: Existance
Scarver's Calling features the vocalist of the now defunct death metal band Embalmer. The rest of the crew come from a harsh noise band called Apt 213. Together, Scarver's Calling create sludgy death metal with grind elements. Definitely something for fans of Deadbodieseverywhere or similar bands.
This is an only partially sane band with a strong empathy regarding violence, which apparently is the image of these guys. This is proven by lyrics like "I'm a sick asshole murderer". Both whined and growled vocals are used in addition to a very varied tempo. Unfortunately, they are just too chaotic to truly make agressive music.
Corrupted keeps a rather loud and heavy profile. It's not earth shattering, but that might be caused by the limitations of the vinyl. However, the sick growls and filth, which is up to the standard they usually set, still makes this quite a good experience.
This track reminds me more of their earlier stuff, which had plenty of hardcore influences. But there are also influences of the more modern Corrupted. This is sort of a bridge between the sounds of the new and the old.
Why Corrupted seems to prefer to primarily do splits with grind (ok, primarily death in this case) bands is something I never quite understood. Usually I would say that the music fits together, but in this case it doesn't. In either case I would have preferred having another doom band on the split instead of Scarver's Calling.
---------------------------------------

Corrupted/Phobia(Split) 1999
Corrupted (Jpn)
1.Nieve Segundo 06:00
Phobia (US)
2.You Suffer 01:00
3.You 01:27
4.Social Sheep 00:30
5.Rid Self Condemnation 02:30
Total playing time 11:27
Corrupted seems to enjoy making splits with grind/death metal bands, but Phobia has to be their best choice yet. The two bands both have a sound that make them fit very well together, even though they end up on the opposite end of the speed scale. Despite the fact that the tracks from both bands are quite typical for their genre, this is an interesting listening. You could almost call this a 7" education in grind and sludge/doom.
The length of the tracks is one of the major differences between the bands. While Corrupted's only track, 'Nieve Segundo' (translated: "Second Snow" , lasts six minutes, Phobia's four tracks only lasts a total of five and a half minutes, where the shortest of the tracks only last 30 seconds. Now that is quite a difference.
Phobia creates a 50/50 mixture of death metal and grindcore. This means that both elements can clearly be heard even if the drummer abuses the drums with what I'm sure must be more than ten hits per second. Also whereas many grind bands only manage to end up creating a chaos of banging noises, these guys manage to create a really agressive sound from it all. I'm not sure which kind of phobia is meant to make you feel like this, but it sure is nothing I want to be going through. Corrupted's track has a very familiar sound for those who have heard their early works. Not particularly heavy on the bass, but focuses instead on a very fuzzy and noisy sound. Nothing we haven't heard before, but on the other hand it's definitely not their worst production either.
Allthough I still prefer their longer tracks, this is one of the most recommendable 7" that Corrupted has appeared on.
---------------------------------------

Corrupted-Dios Injusto(EP) 1999
1.Dios Injusto 05:27
2.Unfair God 05:04
Total playing time 10:31
More Spanish band reviews? Well, yes, 'Dios Injusto' is Spanish for "Unjust God" so this is obviously yet another Corrupted release with lyrics entirely in Spanish. Rumour has it that the band has a Spanish vocalist, hence all the Spanish lyrics. Others claim that his Spanish is too bad to be coming from a native speaker. In either case, sludge and Spanish seem to marry up very well together, and I guess that's what matters at the end of the day.
Although the music isn't as slow as in 'Paso Inferior', the sound is quite alike. A major element of noise has also been added to the crushing riffage. Without a doubt this is as filthy and raw as one could possibly get. Another similarity is the fact that both releases consist of only one track, which seems to be quite typical for Corrupted. And no doubt they do make better music when they increase the length of the tracks. I have no idea why, but it seems to be the case 9 out of 10 times.
Other than that there isn't really much to say. Everyone who has heard the doom/sludge epic 'Paso Inferior' should know what to expect. And everyone who likes it should definitely enjoy this release too.

Corrupted-Llenandose de Gusanos(Full length) 1999
Disc 1
1.Sangre / Humanos 49:56
Disc 2
1.El Mundo 73:54
Total playing time 02:03:51
To many people the magic number is three, but in this case it's two. 'Llenandose De Gusanos' (translated as "Filled With Worms" consists of two tracks, each on a separate CD, totaling a playing time of just over two hours. That's over 120 minutes of music. But! Corrupted fans, don't rejoice too soon. Most of the time this is not the sludge/doom Corrupted that we know and love.
'Sangre/Humanos' seems to be two tracks blended into one. "Sangre", Spanish for "Blood", seems to be the 17 and a half minute long intro to "Humanos", which is Spanish for "Human". Yes, you heard me right. The intro alone lasts nearly a third of an hour. However, for those who don't enjoy sad, minimalist ambient soundscapes, it might get rather tedious. This is because the intro consists of just a faint piano and some sporadic and faded words which are as much mumbled as they are spoken; an understandably monotonous experience.
The first track is a total of 50 minutes long. So when I say that the rest of the track is the only sludge/doom that you will find on this release, you can pretty much do the maths yourself. Out of a total of 124 minutes, only 32 and a half minutes consist of doom metal. On its own that's not bad, but when you know that it's only a quarter of the running time of this release, it gets kind of disappointing. On the other hand, this section will not be a disappointment to those who manage to get through the intro. Powerful dirging bass with the filthy sound and the foul vocals in Spanish that have become Corrupted's trademark is what you should expect. In addition there is a new element included, rhythmic pounding on a piano that only enchants the disgusting aura. This is not just sludge/doom as we are used to hearing from these guys, it's actually one of their best and grimmest works to date.
'El Mundo' (translated as 'The World' is even more minimalist than the intro to 'Sangre/Humanos'. It's so ambient that after hearing the powerful final half an hour of the first track, it's almost impossible to hear any sound at all. This track lasts a whole 74 minutes, which is pure torture through boredom for those that don't particularly like this kind of music. The rumbling repetitive structure of this track reminds me of a more ambient Fall Of The Grey-Winged One or I Dream No More. This rumbling, or droning as some would call it, goes on and on to eternity. Perhaps that's the reason behind its name?
Some people consider this release to be the best Corrupted release so far because purely on the basis of the first CD. Most of the others seem to run out of patience before they can enjoy it. It seems to me that this release is only really enjoyable for the select few which enjoy both kinds of music. I would advise the rest to get hold of it only if you’re a collector of Corrupted material.

10.Anciano (Live Version With Solmania)
Meat Slave, or Niku Rodei as they are called in Japanese, has to be one of the toughest bands to review that I've encountered thus far. Well, at least that is the case on this release and I can't say I've heard any of their other works. This is due to the fact that they play noise almost as pure as you get it. The drummer holds a grindcore pace on the drums, but most of the time you can't really hear him. The vocals reminds me somewhat of Zaraza, but mostly the vocalist is just as absent in the noise as the drummer. There is the question whether this is good or not, but honestly - it's just noise. It's basically like asking whether the sound of a carhorn is good music or not.
During the approximately 6 minutes that they play, they manage to pump out 9 tracks. If any of them actually pass a minute, I'm not sure. They are all taken from a live recording from a gig in Koenji GEAR, February 9th, 1994. There is absolutely no way to really tell where one track stops and another begins. The noise stays pretty much the same all the way.
Apparently these guys are singing about some really nasty stuff at times and the most perverted tracks are those with Japanese names. They were originally written in the Japanese alphabet (Kanji). Since most of us cannot read that, I'll translate it here: 'ゾンデ挿入' (Zonde Sounyuu) = "sonde insertion", '体液排出による興奮' (Taieki Haishutsu Niyoru Koufun) = "body fluids discharging because of arousal", and '精液まみれの女性器' (Seieki Mamire No Josei Ki) = "semen covers the girls cunt".
Corrupted presents a live collaboration track from the same concert as the one on the 'Corrupted(+Solmania)/Sloth Split', which was released the same year. It's basically a noisy version of the track 'Anciano' which originally appeared as the title track on the debut release of Corrupted. The recording doesn't have good quality, but it's otherwise ok. I think most would still prefer the original version.
This is just a promo so you won't be able to buy this from the label. You might be lucky and find someone selling it, but that's a long shot. Then again, there is not much interesting here unless you are buying it for the collection's sake.

Corrupted/Sloth(Split) 2000
Corrupted (Jpn)
1.Inactivo (live with Solmania)
Sloth (US) 03:48
2.Most Of The Bands I Like Either Broke Up Or Now Suck 04:21
Total playing time 08:09
Except for the fact that the total length of this 7" is just under 8 minutes (while the average is 11-12 minutes), this is probably one of the best sludge/doom splits I've encountered. All three bands use their talents to the max here. It doesn't get any better than that.
Corrupted find themselves working together with a rather unknown japanese noise band called Solmania. In addition to being just about the best track ever put out by Corrupted, it gets no less impressive when you find out that the track is actually recorded live. This is because the quality of the sound is really high (allthough that might be a contradiction to a noise band).
The intensity of 'Inactivo' (translated: "Inactive" is is far greater than on any of Corrupted's earlier songs. In fact the intensity of the noise almost makes the track leave the doom metal realm. The slightly insane aura just makes the experience all the sweeter. Truly a treat for extreme music fans.
Sloth re-released their track on their only full length, 'Division 1 State Champs', which came out the year after the release of this split. But that's not a negative thing. This split is so rare anyways and the track so good that everyone should hear it. It's got the low tuned and menacing sound which I love about Sloth. Not to mention their usual straightforward humor. As for the lyrical content, don't you think the trackname speaks for itself?
Fans of both bands should be looking for this one. Of course it won't be easy to find, but it is without doubt worth it.

Discordance Axis / Corrupted / 324 (Split) 2001
Discordance Axis
1.Ikaruga
2.Berserk
Corrupted (Jpn)
3.Bloodscape
4.Bougyaku No Basyo
324
5.Terminal Chamber
6.Prismrider
7.Just Sit There
Total playing time 28:23
This split shows the main differences between Doom Metal and grindcore. Both Discordance Axis and 324 play grindcore. In comparison, as you probably already know, Corrupted play really heavy Sludge/Doom. The most notable of the differences is the fact that while the two grindcore bands have only managed to create 11 minutes total for this split, Corrupted alone easily beats them with a total of 17 minutes worth of music.
The U.S. four piece called Discordance Axis, starts off the split with the track 'Ikaruga'. The name of the track apparently comes from a manga style space shoot-em-up and consists of one minute of blasting grindcore, intense screaming and a lot of banging on drums. They then apparently grew tired and created the worst filler track ever. It's basically five minutes of a faint "....thom..thom......." which repeats itself all the way through the track. I know that discordance means disharmony, but this is just silly.
Next, Corrupted is out to save the day with their pounding, filthy Sludge/Doom. It's slow and heavy, just like you probably had anticipated. The track 'Bougyaku No Basyo', which means "place of tyranny", is so far the only track that they have ever made that has Japanese lyrics [edit by author: they later recorded more tracks with japanese lyrics]. That little oddity alone makes this quite a unique release and a must have for Corrupted fans.
Last band out is the Japanese grind/death metallers 324. The sound of the music reminds me of a grind version of early The Mad Capsule Markets. In fact, there isn't much death metal in these songs either. It's mostly just pure grindcore. They have only produced 5 minutes of music, which gives them the shortest playing time of the three bands. But while Discordance Axis went lazy after a minute, these guys at least kept going strong through every second.
This split CD is one of the hardest Corrupted releases to get hold of. The two tracks that they have made clearly makes this CD worth a slight effort to get hold of, but only if you are a fan. Fans of grindcore probably shouldn't spend a fortune getting ahold of this either.

Corrupted- La Victima es tu Mismo(EP)2001
1.La Victima es tu Mismo 06:22
2.Los Colores del Cielo 07:02
Total playing time 13:24
'La Victima Es Tu Mismo' (translated: "The Victim Is Yourself" , like Corrupted's early releases, have quite prominent hardcore influences. However, unlike the early releases, these two tracks have noisier guitars and a slightly ghastly sound.
Allthough I do not understand the lyrics as I don't understand more than a tiny bit of spanish, the cover art tells quite a bit about the meaning of the name of this 7". It's an image of a man with a dagger, standing in the shadows of some ruins. This makes me suspect that it has something to do with war or hostility. And I do think that hatred always returns back to you.
The name of the second track, 'Los Colores Del Cielo' (translated: "The Color Of The Sky" , makes me suspect that this might also be about mankind ruining the world that we live in. And since we are a part of this world, we are surely ruining ourselves at the same time. Whichever meaning the names have, the ugly music makes it very clear that it is something that's not too good at all.
This 7" is best summed up as a release which would be loved by those who enjoy really filthy music. This is far too dark for the heart of a romantic. In fact, I think it's too dark for the average black metal fan to enjoy.

Corrupted/Cripple Bastards (Split)
2002
Corrupted: track 1
Cripple Bastards : tracks 2-5
1.Empty 05:26
2.Too Late
3.Electrodes Dictating
4.Gnadentod Of The Healthy
5.La Repulsione Negli Occhi (Remix 2001)
Once again Corrupted goes ahead and does a split with a grindcore band. Now normally this has had no effect whatsoever on their music. Sadly, that is not the case this time. Their track, 'Empty', is nothing but a very standard sludgecore track with hints of doom metal. Those who have been spoiled by the great moments that Corrupted have created in the past will probably be dissapointed.
The riffage is one I've never heard by these guys in the past. The vocals and filthy aura still give them away, but clearly this is not the same music that you'd expect from these guys. It's generally a decent track with a nice groove and no really bad parts, but sadly it does fail to impress.
Cripple Bastards is, while occationally influenced by death metal and hardcore, very much a pure grindcore band. The blasting drums almost conquer the music as the band toss themselves around in a violent rage. Without doubt music for those who like extreme grind.
Apparently these grind maniacs like to play with different languages. Like the word "Gnadentod" (taken from the title of track four) which is german for "Graceful Death". This while the name of their fifth track, 'La Repulsione Negli Occhi (Remix 2001)', is french for "The Repulsion In The Eyes". Quite sophisticated for a band that sounds like they just want to kill everyone in one huge, bloody massacre.
I guess fans of sludge or grindcore might have something of interest in this split. But for the average sludge/doomster I couldn't find anything worth looking for.

Corrupted- Se Hace Por Los Suenos Asesinos(Full lenght) 2004
1.Gekkou No Daichi 17:02
2.Rato Triste 10:44
3.Sus Futuros 07:37
Total playing time 35:23
This is the brand new LP from Japan's reigning kings of tortured sludge doom. 3 new songs are on display here, and it's packaged in a beautiful gatefold vinyl sleeve. The label (H:G Fact) pressed 1,000 copies of this and in just over a week sold out of all their copies, so it'll be a little tough to find, as I found out for myself.
Side A features one song with a title in Kanji, so I can't read it or even type it here. This song is a big departure for Corrupted, as it's entirely acoustic! Never thought I'd hear that. Layered, down-tuned acoustic guitars and rumbling, bassy vocals droning out lyrics in Japanese. They actually create some neat melodies and the track works quite well. It would be interesting to hear more of these sludge/doom bands trying stuff like this.
Side B has two songs more in the s t y l e we are used to seeing from Corrupted. "Rato Triste" is the typical slow, grinding sludge-doom that we all know and love from these guys, with the lyrics back to Spanish again. "Sus Futuros" is a tad different, as it is quite an up-tempo track, at least for these guys. It has an almost rocking feel to it as they plow along at a relatively break-neck speed.

Corrupted can hardly be accused of being a sell-out when the guys release an album that consists of one track lasting just over 71 minutes! And this is also a track that repeats basic riffs throughout much of its length, is a mostly moody instrumental piece that meditates on the sorry record of humans in their treatment of one another and their environments over the years, and looks towards an uncertain future where freedom, democracy and compassion towards others become very distant memories. Yes, "El Mundo Frio" ("The Cold Planet" is well-named indeed.
It begins very quietly and slowly, also very gracefully, and continues its gentle path until the sledgehammer guitars and drums pound their way in and take up the melody. The music becomes dignified and sounds massive thanks to a very slow minimalist approach which makes each guitar slash seem long and reverberating in your head after it's actually finished. There is a constant buzz in the background but it's not black metal guitar buzz. The drumming doesn't appear to be especially hard and powerful but with such emphatic guitar playing, that doesn't matter; what matters is the way Corrupted builds up mood and emotion which is a mixture of despair, resignation and suppressed anger at good things, qualities and people being lost unnecessarily. The vocals are initially in spoken Japanese but when the death metal growls start, it's hard to tell what language they're in but I assume they are in Spanish as this is the language Hevi normally sings in. The rhythms are slow and steady and the guitars continue like a massive repetitive riffing juggernaut. This music is majestic, sombre and melancholy and is possibly the best part of the album.
Just before the halfway point, the music collapses in on itself and becomes a mix of quiet electric guitars, soft percussion and harp played by guest musician Anri Teresa II. The harp adds a mournful feel to the music and the guitars also have a melancholy blues sound. This long section enables the listener to ponder the message of this recording and mediate on the photos of the natural phenomena in the CD package; they are in black and white but I think this is deliberately done so we don't get dazzled and go away thinking they are just pretty pictures. Soon the guitars build up again as if roused to action on the planet Earth's behalf, Hevi begins speaking again and the doom metal strings crash down like a mighty monolith avenger against the injustices done to the Earth in the past. Hevi switches to death metal vocals, groaning under the burden of the world's problems. Riffs constantly crashing down signal a climax and the music then continues quietly to the end.
It's not really such heavy-going music despite the length as the musicians have shaped the track so that it builds up slowly and maintains your attention, and when the thunder passes, meditative ambient passages bring down the tension. This is music to make you think and reflect on serious topics and that kind of music is extremely rare in a world where everything including music, the environment and even people are treated as throwaway. The style of the music is minimalist and often sparing yet it is monumental and hard to ignore. Hevi does not harangue his audience to go out and do their bit to save the planet, he presents a scenario of what is for many people already, and what could be for us if we are not mindful of what we are doing and simply continue on our own path of self-destruction.

Corrupted- An Island Insane(EP)
2007
1.An Island Insane 12:32
Total playing time 12:32
I know the band is really enamored of the color black, but this is a bit ridiculous -- the single (like the companion, "Vasana" is on black vinyl, sports black labels with ghostlike dark gray lettering, and comes in a heavy black open sleeve with two stiff, slick black insert panels, each with more lettering in dark gray (plus the liner notes on the back of the smaller insert are completely in Japanese). Spinal Tap had nothing on these guys in the packaging department, okay? As for the music, it's slow, dirgelike, and ridiculously heavy on the first side, with a guitar sound frequently verging on collapsing into pure wailing feedback; the flip side is more of an dark-ambient noise soundscape accompanied by what could be heavily processed acoustic guitar or piano, not too far removed from the sound of the strange ending of PASO INFERIOR. It's dark and eerie stuff, with a cavernous sound and distinctly alienated aesthetic... in other words, more typical whole-grain goodness from Japan's most ominous export.

Corrupted- Vasana(EP) 2007
1.Vasana 13:41
Total playing time 13:41
This single has the same kind of packaging as "An Island Insane" (and like that one, is limited to a thousand copies available only by mail from the Corrupted website), but this time the sound is more of a throwback to the morosely minimalist guitar picking of SE HACE POR LOS SUENOS ASESINOS, but this time swaddled in soul-crushing bass drone and mystical, semi-jazzy chording that gives the whole thing a new and distinctly different tone from previous releases. The flip side is more of the same, only with a lot of intensely thunderous drumming buried under the fuzzdrone and death-blurt. Is it heavy? Does the pope shit in the Vatican? This is actually one of the heaviest slices of (relatively) straightforward, slow-motion doom the band has done in a while. It's also the first time in ages that drummer Chew has made his chops so spectacularly obvious. Swank, swank stuff... but what else did you expect of the heaviest band in the world?
---------------------------------------
Note: One split missing. its called"Twin Threat to Your Sanity" Besides that everything that corrupted has ever been involved in, is here.
Ive also added Some rare Misc tracks, and some live recordings in this discog.
Took me quite some time to create this, and i hope you guys will love corrupted as much as i do.
Enjoy!
